Gluten and Dairy Free Cheese Croutons

This is a quick and easy recipe of Homemade Gluten and Dairy Free Cheese Croutons. Use them as topping on you favorite dishes. Also check out soup or salad recipes on the blog for ideas.


Making the croutons allergy friendly

  • 🌮 Gluten Free: For this recipe I used hamburger buns but you can use any kind of stale gluten free bread as I have used in my previous Homemade Croutons recipe.
  • 🌮 Dairy Free: I used vegan cheddar cheese. You can use your favourite dairy free cheese shreds.

For this recipe I grinded the dairy free cheese in a coffee grinder. Then mixed it with some olive oil, Italian mixed herbs, salt and pepper. Cut up some gluten free bread tossed it in the cheese mixture. Then I spread it in a single layer on an oven safe dish. Place it in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.


Why use stale bread

  • 🌮 It will soak up the olive oil really well.
  • 🌮 When making the cubes it will not tear apart.


How to Store Croutons

  • 🌮 Even though the croutons will be gone before you even take them out of the oven but you can store them in an air tight container.
  • 🌮 You can also freeze them. To use take them out a few minutes before use and reheat them in oven.

2 tablespoon dairy free cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt, to taste
1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix

Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. Heat the oven to 350 F.

Place the dairy free cheese in a coffee grinder and grind it to a fine consistency. Place it in a bowl.

Take two slices of gluten free bread and cut into small cubes.

Add the bread cubes to the bowl, now add all the seasonings. Toss to mix.

Spread the bread cubes on an oven safe dish in a single layer. Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Take it out, turn over the cubes,then place back in the oven and bake for further 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Cook Notes

  • Use crushed chilli peppers to make the croutons spicy
  • Use mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar
  • Leave out garlic powder if you do not like it
